New Publication Exposes Brussels Propaganda
Thursday 20 June 2002
As we approach a referendum on the euro a new publication titled "Federalist Thought Control: The Brussels Propaganda Machine" has been produced by the Bruges Group to kick-off a campaign against the EU’s attempts at undermining a fair and democratic debate in Britain.
The European Union is spending at least 128 million pounds on subsidising pro-EU groups who are promoting further European integration. This biased propaganda will endanger a fair and democratic debate taking place as to whether or not Britain adopts the euro.
Local Conservative MEPs Roger Helmer and Chris Heaton-Harris have applauded the Bruges Group on their publication. Speaking at the European Parliament in Brussels Euro-MP Chris Heaton-Harris said:
"As Britain approaches a referendum on the euro this paper and the Bruges Group’s on-going campaign is designed to ensure that the debate is a fair one. People in the East Midlands need to hear both sides of the argument."
Roger Helmer MEP, who has himself published two books on the subject of the European Union, said:
"It’s a disgrace that the EU is using propaganda to promote further European integration without giving equal weight to both sides of the debate.
"How can we have a fair referendum when the EU is funding numerous groups and even sending illegal propaganda into the classroom - using children as "information suppliers" to convince older generations in their family."
