MEPs welcome new press officer
Wednesday 11th May 2005
East Midlands Conservative MEPs Chris Heaton-Harris and Roger Helmer are pleased to announce the appointment of the newest member of their constituency team, Regional Press Officer Laura Norman.
Laura, from East Hunsbury, Northampton, has joined the East Midlands team in their Lutterworth Office following graduation from Nottingham University with a Masters degree in International Relations and Politics. In accordance with her academic background and with a keen interest in politics, Laura worked full-time with Damian Collins and the Northampton North Conservative Association throughout the general election campaign, and stood as the Conservative candidate for the Spencer division in the recent County Council elections. A regular running enthusiast, she recently completed her second London Marathon, raising a substantial amount of money for the Cynthia Spencer Hospice in Northampton.
The MEPs’ Press Officer plays a vital role in communicating with East Midlands voters, through the media, the work of the MEPs and the effect of EU decisions on their daily lives. Voters often complain that they don’t know enough about the EU and the work of their MEPs so the work of the Press Office is designed to help fill that gap.
Speaking on Laura's appointment Roger Helmer said:
"We are delighted to have Laura on board. It is good to have such enthusiastic young people involved in Politics."
Chris Heaton-Harris added:
"Through Laura's work we will be able to better inform the people of the East Midlands of what's happening in Europe and the work that we do."
