Letter to the Editor
Nottingham Evening Post - Wednesday, 24th January 2007
Dear Sir,
Contrary to Jon Beresford's letter of Jan 3rd, I have no difficulty at all in understanding why China emits more CO2 than the UK. I also know that China is building dozens of new and dirty coal-fired power stations every year. And I know that if Britain were to switch off the whole of its economy, dead, China would take up the slack in CO2 emissions in just over a year.
He is entirely wrong on nuclear energy. While some renewable technologies have a limited role to play (bio-fuels, for example), nuclear power the only non-carbon technology that can deliver the high-volume base-load power we need to drive our growing economy.
