Reinstate Roger Campaign nominated for the New Statesman New Media Awards 2006
A grassroots internet campaign designed to get the European Conservative Party whip restored to local MEP Roger Helmer has been nominated for its second prestigious award.
Following last month’s nomination for “Best National Campaign” in ConservativeHome.com’s Inaugural Conservative awards, The New Statesman, one of Britain’s leading political magazines has announced the ‘Reinstate Roger Campaign’ www.reinstateroger.com would be nominated in their New Media Awards in the category of Innovation.
Since 1998, these awards have promoted projects that embrace new technology, fresh thinking and creative management in the UK and are intended to highlight those who have achieved something of benefit to others, whether in their community or in society at large. The category of innovation will go to the individual or organisation that has best used new media technology to improve public life.
Speaking today, Roger Helmer said:
“This campaign, which was launched independently by three young Conservative activists, is a text-book example of how the internet can be used to drive an issue. I am delighted that their achievement has been recognised in this nomination”.
Co-founder of the Reinstate Roger campaign, Chris Palmer said:
“We are delighted to be nominated for the New Statesman Innovation award, where we find ourselves up against truly outstanding competition for the top spot. Though we do not expect to win the award – we hope that our nomination will help further knowledge of our campaign and the situation of Roger Helmer MEP.”
John Kampfner, editor of the New Statesman has said:
“Society has always been promised a great deal by the digital revolution and the 2006 New Media Awards will highlight the projects that have really delivered on that promise.”
