"Euro - Bad for your health and wealth!" warns MEP
Wednesday, 13 November 2002
The Danish People's Party has issued a dramatic warning of the dangers posed by the new Euro coins, which now appear not only to pose a risk to economic wealth, but also health, following a rash of reports of skin allergy reactions across the Euro-zone.
Mr Helmer is supporting the Danish People's Party who have claimed that the coins contain a level of the metal nickel up to 200 times the EU's own maximum safety levels. The Euro-sceptic Danish Party has produced protective latex gloves carrying the stark warning "WARNING! Nickel allergy! Protect yourself against the Euro!" to highlight the danger of allergic reactions to the high content of nickel.
Commenting on the initiative, East Midlands MEP Roger Helmer said:
"We don't always agree with the Danish People's Party, but this time they are spot on. Euro coins represent a real allergy risk to susceptible users. And the economic damage the Euro is causing is much worse than the health problems. The Euro is bad for your health and your wealth".
